Highlands

For brass ensemble and percussion

A meticulously crafted suite for brass quintet and percussion that showcases the individual brilliance of each soloist. Highlands was nominated for Concert of the Year at the Opus Awards.

Inspired by the melodic elegance of classical concertos in cinematic landscapes, the piece takes listeners on a soaring journey through a lush expanse of lyrical lines and expansive melodies.

In 2019, the quintet presented its new show, Buzz Symphonique, with the Quebec City and Gatineau orchestras. Another series of arrangements for quintet and orchestra by Javier Asencio was performed by the Qingdao Orchestra in 2016, during the ensemble’s first Chinese tour, where the quintet represented Canada at the opening concert of the fifteenth edition of the Meet in Beijing Arts Festival, China’s largest international arts festival.
