Since 2014, Javier Asencio has been collaborating with the prestigious Buzz brass quintet, for which he composes and arranges chamber and orchestral music.
This piece is part of a five-movement suite created at the request of the quintet. The musicians wanted to explore the different musical influences that had fuelled their desire to become musicians. Au sommet was composed to highlight the quality of trumpet player Frédéric Gagnon's playing.
Asencio created the quintet and percussion composition for the show Buzz Beat, which was nominated for the 2017 Opus Awards for Concert of the Year – Multiple Repertoire.
In 2019, the quintet presented its new show, Buzz Symphonic, with the Québec and Gatineau orchestras. Another series of Asencio's arrangements for quintet and orchestra were performed by the Qingdao Orchestra in 2016, during the ensemble's first tour of China, where the quintet represented Canada at the opening concert of the fifteenth edition of the Meet in Beijing Arts Festival, China's largest international arts festival.
